The Game-Based Learning Summit is a one-day event that brings together gaming professionals and educational leaders to network, learn, and discuss the future of gaming in education.

Keynote Speaker

John Meehan
Educator and Author

John Meehan is an English teacher and Instructional Coach at Bishop O’Connell High School in Arlington, Virginia, and the author of EDrenaline Rush: Game-Changing Student Engagement Inspired by Amusement Parks, Mud Runs, and Escape Rooms.  In March of 2019, he created the #EggDashChallenge – a classroom activity that became a viral video, racking up 75K+ views in less than one month, and spawning hundreds of classroom videos in 40 U.S. states, 6 Canadian provinces, and 8 countries. Mr. Meehan is a 2017 ASCD Emerging Leader and an alumnus of the 2016-2018 Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Teacher Advisory Council.  In 2016, he was named one of Arlington, Virginia’s “40 Under 40” by the Leadership Center for Excellence.  In 2018, he received his level one Sentenia gamification certificate.  He is an avid runner who’s completed more than three dozen marathons, half marathons, long-distance road relays, mud runs, and obstacle course races.

STEM and Innovation Supervisor, Cobb County Public Schools

Dr. Sally Creel has been a district administrator at Cobb County Public Schools for over 14 years.  She currently supervises STEM and Innovation in the second-largest school system in Georgia.

 

Russ LeWinter
Senior Business Development Manager, Amazon Web Services

Russ LeWinter is the Senior Business Development Manager for Amazon Web Services, working to bring Alexa to education.  He focuses on helping edtech companies and publishers investigate the use of Alexa/AI and Machine Learning in the classroom.

 

Dr. Larry Plank
Director of K-12 STEM Education, Hillsborough County Public Schools

Dr. Larry Plank has been a staple of the Hillsborough County Public School system for almost 20 years.  He currently supervises K-12 STEM Education, after many years of supervising secondary science and being a science teacher himself.

 

Jason Corace
Director of the MICA Game Lab and Professor, Maryland Institute College of Art

After 8 years of teaching at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), Jason became the director of the MICA Game Lab.  There, he prepares game developers of the future.

 

Geoff Boderick
President, World Book

For more than 100 years, World Book has been sparking the imagination of discovery in learners worldwide.  As president, Geoff focuses on transforming traditional learning materials for today’s learners.

 

Bryan Branford
Co-Founder and CEO, Brinkbit

In 2013, Bryan co-founded Brinkbit, the cloud game development platform.  Brinkbit is a fast, extensible, and scalable BaaS platform for game services, content management, live ops, and more!

 

Doug Whatley
Founder and CEO, BreakAway Games

Doug founded BreakAway in 1998 and has since positioned it as a leader in Serious Games and Game-Based Learning.  BreakAway creates training games for healthcare, education, and incident command.

 

Jennifer Javornik
Vice President of Sales, Filament Games

Filament Games is an award-winning developer of digital learning games and learning game solutions.  As the VP of Sales, Jennifer oversees all aspects of the company’s sales function and drives innovation.

 

Dr. Felicia Martin-Latief
STEM Instructional Supervisor, Prince George’s County Public Schools

Dr. Felicia Martin-Latief has paved the way for innovation and growth in the Prince George’s County Public School system through her position as the STEM Instructional Supervisor.
